THE MONK HOTEL
Thelonious Monk, the great Jazz pianist and composer, was born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina in 1917, and grew up in the neighborhood nearby the hotel. Though he moved to New York at a young age, his "Southern roots had an important influence on his music." (NPR) Photo courtesy of the Library of Congress.
THE MONK HOTEL
The 64 rooms are divided between standard king and queen guest rooms, pet-friendly rooms, bunk rooms and four unique suite designs.
THE MONK HOTEL
The interior design concept -- Fresh Atomic -- blends retro styled furniture and finishes with a contemporary minimalist aesthetic.
THE MONK HOTEL
Originally built in 1961, this concrete, glass, steel and masonry building employed salvaged brick from nearby 19th century mill buildings along the Tar River.
THE MONK HOTEL
The hotel is updated for the 21st Century by relocating the motor-lodge style internal parking in order to create a private amenities courtyard for guests. The project is a joint venture with east coast-based Good Work Architects.
